Beetle/snail/yellow flower

Have been in Provence for 3 days now tending a friend's garden and revelling in the sun, the beautiful blue haze on the Luberon mountains in the distance, great fresh food and lovely company. Much of the scrub has dead flower stalks up which white snails have crawled in their droves - from a distance they look like massed flowers.
