A fellow volunteer and I went out on a boat this afternoon to spot some of these beauties that grace the warm waters off the coast of Manabi. Each year from June to September humpack whales swim here to mate. Their arrival is a hugely important part of tourism in Southern Manabi: in the last decade or so the port city of Puerto Lopez has become an epicenter for whale-watching activities. And what an impressive activity it is.
