Back to work
Today's blip is a very lazy one I know but I hope you will forgive me.
When I was 5 my parents and I moved away from Yorkshire and all the rest of the family. My Dad had been the first of his family to ever go to university and in doing had met my Mum. I therefore already had one set of grandparents living some 200 miles away. If he hadn't left home it is probable that, like his brothers, he would have married a 'local' girl.
We moved to South Wales, a fair distance from BOTH sets of grandparents. So half terms were spent doing a triangle of Yorkshire/Norfolk/South Wales. I was unusual amongst my friends in that my family was so far away from me and that I travelled so far to see them.
One of the exciting things about doing long journeys was seeing the mileage counter hit the next 1000 miles!! We used to build up to it for ages. Our car had more miles on the clock than anybody else we knew.
So today, as I drove home from the first day of a new term - brain frazzled by the information overload of a training day - I noticed that the mileage was approaching a milestone. I recalled those moments of my childhood and wondered what my young self would make of me now.
P.S. Sorry about the dust. Photo taken in a hurry!!!
