Wardown Park Luton

I haven't been able to get into the park since moving to Luton but I walk past it on my way into the town centre. It is a large park with a museum and always has events on. For the last week there has been a funfair in the park but that left yesterday.

Here's what I know

1. It is situated on the River Lea (I will get a photo of that)

2. It was first a farmhouse and country residence in the 1800s

3. In 1903 it was put on the market for £17,000 and sold to local councillors Asher Hucklesby and Edwin Oakley in 1904 who bought it on behalf of Luton council

4. It contains formal gardens and the Luton Museum & Art Gallery

5. In the middle of the park is a lake which contains a small island that people are not allowed to access. Instead it is home to swans, ducks, and geese.

6. In 2005 it received one million pounds worth of lottery funding plus local residence contributed/worked on the park too.

7. There is a wall that was built around 1905 called The Daisty Chain Wall (very pretty)

At some point soon (depending on this weather which is wet and windy today!) I will get into the park and take a photo of the island that is home to all those wonderful waterfoul
