Let velorail take the strain

Day 5 of our Brittany holiday.

Today we went on the velorail - absolutely fantastic.

Disused railway line with a number of 2 bikes anchored to a metal frame that has small cogs to keep it all on the rails. You just pedal and the two bikes are on the rails - it feels really funny not being able to steer - but of course you can use the gears.

Choice of 2 rides short or long - short goes east - long west. If there are a number of pairs you set off at 5 minute intervals - after about an hour you reach the destination lift the whole thing on a turntable and turn it to face the return. We stopped for a picnic before making our way back. On route you cross a number of country lanes with barriers that you have to lift to get through. BRILLIANT!!!!

In the photo my wife is having a break while we wait for the 2 girls to catch up. The seat thing in the middle is for children or luggage/picnic. Please note the 2 euro cool box (see 7 August) but no room for tractor seat.

There are 2 sessions per day and when we returned in time for the 2 o'clock one it was a lot busier than our morning ride.
