08.49 - 2100m!
A sleepless night...I now know why our tent (at home in the cupboard) is worth it's weight penalty....£20 festival tents are good for...well festivals I think!
Still a hearty breakfast (cold coffee to reheat on the stove, with milk powder and long life bread!) and we are off before 8 am to climb our first col (or Bocca in Corsican...they really are mixed up, if you mix Italian and French together it's a great approximation...as I mix both normally I am practically fluent :-))
The climb continues to the high point of the day, part of the GR20 trail in dotted lines (I later realise that the dotting means it is more difficult than the normal route), this particular dotted section included a 30' climb up a gully fitted with chains. I am not an expert in these areas but I feel it's probably the sort of thing that would feature in books such as 'Easy Climbs and Scrambles in XXX'. Unfortunately K doesn't read these books and really doesn't like the 'dotted...more difficult' bit of the trail...almost a year married and she is threatening the lawyers! But it's OK as a warm shower and fine dinner awaits us in the next refuge (sorry hallucinating there....it's cold showers but at least dinner is better, & whilst we not have two mattresses they are damp and we have been warned are bed bug ridden!)
Holidays eh!
