Today's the day ......................... for the Westmorland County Show

If an alien spaceship had landed today in the middle of the field where the County Show was happening and the aliens had got out and had a look around - they would have been completely mystified at the goings-on.

How would you have been able to explain why thousands of people would queue up to park their cars in a quagmire and then walk through ankle-deep mud towards the tents and marquees in the pouring rain. Inside the marquees were an array of assorted garden produce, animals, crafts and flower displays.

The soaking wet people in their muddy wellies trudged round the marquees and looked at who had won prizes. This is the egg competition on a table in the middle of the chicken tent.

Probably the most bizarre thing of all was that the soaking wet people seemed to be quite happy.......................
