Homeward bound
My last holiday update from Dubai where my holiday journal started. I only see the airport for my lay over and have a couple of hours to wile away.
We get off the plane and despite it being dark outside and very early in the morning its 32 degrees and the heat hits you like a wall of humidity when we depart the flight. I think I see the guy in the orange robes burst into flames its so hot.
I leave dad on his own for a while and explore the huge airport, it has a vast expanse of duty free shops and its crazily busy, people are jostling around you, nobody seems to have any manners and they cut in front like your in an arab bizarre. I don?t think that I like this place and strike dubai off my round the world ambition list.
The airport has a small forest in it, I see break dancers and take a peak into the spa that I cant afford to use. I also take dads photo outside the emirates first class lounge as that?s as close as we are getting to its luxury.
Finally, the time has come to board our connecting flight and the next thing I will see is Glasgows fair city.
When we eventually get off the plane, I see the damp, dreek concrete expanse of grey that is Scotland and I know that I will not stay here for the rest of my natural life. I crave colour and Scotland is just a cold, wet and miserable expanse of rock and Im fed up with being a natural blue colour. I do actually love Scotland, but firmly believe there is a better life somewhere waiting.
The hire car is waiting for us, a VW golf and I am pleased that we get a real car and not the holden ballerina we have had on holiday. I drive a manual for the first time in three weeks and it feels good so I boot it on the way home and make it from Glasgow Airport to our home in East Lothian in 1 hour 8 minutes which I think is respectable considering the golf was a diesel ( well you cant have everything)
We get home and I tippy toe into the house as they aren?t expecting me until tomorrow, there isn?t a feeling in the world that compares to Daddy I missed you.
By the time I get to bed I will have been awake for approximately 49 hours.
Thanks for a wonderful experience Dad, we should do it again one day.
