BAHA
This is my new bone anchored hearing aid, or rather, this is the abutment, the piece that the aid will attach to. I had it implanted under a local anaesthetic. The cosultant said that it would take about 45 minutes. It actually took more than this because at the first attempt, the hole had not been drilled deep enough. Round two was succesful and here is the result. It is a very strange sensation, and when the drill is cutting into the mastoid bone is does seem very loud. It feels like the drill is one of those masonry type drills they use for drilling bolts into concrete. When I actually saw it reflected in the light shade, It looked to be similar to to a dentist's drill. I'm looking forward to trying it out, which will be in a little while, to enable the titanium implant to integrate into the bone.
Adios.
