After walking round the Greek and Roman ruins at Empúries (fascinating, and beautifully situated by the sea), lunch in the nearby medieval village of Sant Martí d'Empúries (rossejat, a local version of fideua [paella made with pasta rather than rice], this one black and made with squid ink), a bottle of rosado and a swim, a siesta was necessary. Now just going out to stock up on local olive oil at the village shop before going out to supper at a restaurant up the road where we went last night, but it was so good we're going back again to try some of their other dishes.

We're staying in one of the nicest places we've ever stayed in, an ancient village house beautifully restored and modernised with a very friendly owner who tolerates my broken Spanish!

Sorry, no time to comment - I'll catch up with you all when I get home tomorrow night.
