Female Goldfinch

As we left the house this morning on our way to a Wings of Hope butterfly release event, I noticed this female Goldfinch on the purple coneflower. She was not giving up her breakfast and allowed me to get quite close. I was truly amazed!

The Wings of Hope butterfly release event was sponsored by our local Cancer Support Community. It has been an annual event for four years but it's the first time we have attended. The event included speakers, a young girl who wrote and sang a song she wrote for her sister (a pediatric cancer survivor), and, of course, the release of 250 monarch butterflies. It was really lovely and I was going to post this photo, but I really loved this Goldfinch.
