The first of the year . . .

The border in the back garden is full of poppy buds, just about to open. Went to hang the washing out and here was the first of many, already flowering. So blousey and delicate, they don't last long. The petals fall off so quickly, it's not worth picking them, just enjoy them for as long as possilbe in the garden.

Went to the gardening exhibition in town this morning, and then to do the weekly food shop. No lawn mower was purchased and nerves got a bit frayed, but we did order a new hall carpet to replace the one which has been down for 24 years, so that's something!
