The reason why I'm knackered!
This is Charlie. He is 3. He's the son of my best friends Dan and Rach. Charlie is the reason why I have had 5 hours sleep since 7 am on Friday morning (and why no blip last night)
6pm Friday night - phone rings "Sarah, remember you said if we needed you, well, Rach has gone into labour - can you come and look after Charlie?" No probs - off I go
7.30pm - get there - Rach timing contractions. Its gets too much for her around 9pm so they go to the hospital - they come back at midnight - she's not in established labour so home she was sent.
2.30 am - dozing on the sofa since 1am - Rach in agony, they go to the hospital - take a towel with you says I, in case her waters break in the car. Which they did!
6.30 - Charlie wakes up - surreal conversation, made more surreal by me having only fallen back to sleep at 4.30 ish - "Oh, I thought you would be my mummy" - explain that daddy has taken mummy to the hospital because its time for the new baby to come. Breakfast, dressed and out in the garden by 8 am.
8.30 - Dan rings - Rach about 1 hour away
12.30 - Dan rings - he's been put into scrubs, Rach has spinal block for emergency C-section as baby has turned and got stuck.
2.15 - Dan rings - baby Oliver has finally joined us, Rach knackered, stitched up and recovering from a pretty significant mix of drugs on top of the spinal block.
2.30 - Charlie and me watering plants in the garden, me on 5th cup of coffee.
2.45 - Dan arrives home. Make him a brew, get the details, drive home, have a pizza and get into bed at 5pm.
knackered - and I havent even given birth! Forgotten how demanding 3 year olds are and Charlie is ace - just not as independant as my 8 year old!!!! will sleep well tonight.
Well done Rach, congratulations to you both. No more please!!!!
