Epic
This book was given to me this afternoon, and I finished the whole thing before midnight rolled around. It's definitely a page-turner, and it gave me a different perspective on life in the middle east.
It's generally about two women of different generations who are both married to the same man, who is the epitome of a burqa-advocating sexist who keeps his female family members imprisoned in his house. These two women, Mariam and Laila, struggle to overcome the abuse by both their husband and the Talibans, who would beat a woman if they found her wandering the streets alone. It's definitely an eye-opener, especially since the climax of the story takes place in the late 90s and the early 2000s.
Now I really need to read The Kite Runner!
