NZ Cabbage Tree
Scientific Name: Cordyline australis
Maori Name: Ti Kouka
One of my NZ Cabbage Trees lit by the early morning sun. I really liked the strong light in this one.
Widespread in lowland forest margins, swamps and open country on all three main islands - probably the most recognisable plant in New Zealand. Flowers are white and profuse on large bunched inflorescences producing pale purplish berries (the image shows old ones hanging) - the birds love them. Normally flowering late Spring.
The sun shone this morning but the cloud came over this afternoon and the wind was cold. Another nothing day for me, just a quick walk round the garden with a cuppa in hand. I forgot to note yesterday that my Daphane and spring bulbs of daffodils and grape hyacinths are still flowering, the wisteria is budding up and the maple is showing signs of new growth but the frosts are lingering.
Enjoy your weekend :)
