Hanging Rock
Tom (son) came up from Sydney last night just for the one night. He and I went for a walk today to Hanging Rock. It's about a three hour walk, mostly quite easy, but a bit of a scramble at the end with sheer drops either side. Sorry Mum.
This is hanging rock - a five star pin-up rock for climbers and abseilers. It is over 100 metres high and is ultra thin. It has become detached from the cliff face and, as the name suggests, hangs over the valley. You have to take a large jump across the yawning crevasse to get to it, and the further you go, the thinner it gets.
You can see Tom on the end of it. I hated seeing him there and as amazing as it is, was pleased to turn my back on it.
In answer to Rainie's question, if you misjudge the leap, then I guess you fall 100 metres to the bottom. You can see better how wide the crevasse is if you look large.
