Day 8 - Yosemite to Bishop
Left Yosemite Valley and headed east along the Tioga pass, viewing more stunning scenery that contrasted well with that seen from the valley floor - more domes, meadows, alpine lakes and acres of pine forests. All stunning, as usual. Stopped at Olmerta Point for a very short trail, then continued on, eventually leaving the park after about an hour.
Drove north for about thirty minutes to Bodie State Park - an old ghost town consisting of a few hundred old buildings, empty for decades. The drive along the unpaved road (our poor car - it's knackered anyway) was well worth it - like being in Red Dead Redemption or any famous Wild West film, walking along old Main Street complete with saloon, school, church etc - all abandoned to time.
Drove south from there along the freeway and stopped at Mono Lake for a picnic lunch, then continued on to Bishop which is our home for the night - a warm and pleasant one street town in a valley under the Sierra Nevada mountains. A decent motel is our place to rest, and we've already scoped out the local bowling alley for some fun later after we've had a well deserved burger. We know how to live....!
