Tree fern

I took quite a few photos at a place called Waipapa Landing, on the way into town but they were all a disaster, Try again on the next sunny day.
I see a lot of these at the side of the road and I'm sure they are tree ferns, but with no fern at the top. The pattern on the bark is superb and they almost could be mistaken for totem poles; if you look closely you can see faces on the bark !
If I am wrong I am sure I will be corrected by the Kiwi Blippers !
