Fast Ferry

This year, the ferry company Doeksen celebrates their first centennial. They started in 1908 with transport, towing and salvage and from 1923 also with passenger transport from the Frisian port of Harlingen to Terschelling and Vlieland vice versa. Before the sixties, the salvage department was a very important part of the company, but with the decline in shipping accidents on the Dutch coast and the explosive increase in tourists to the Frisian Islands, the company is now only focused on passenger transfer. And that is what they are doing; thousands of them on days like the last Whitsunday weekend. On the picture you can see the fast ferry 'Koegelwieck' in the early morning hours, almost ready to depart to Harlingen.
