Pillars of the Earth

Quick photo today. I've taken Mum to York for the weekend for an early 60th birthday present.

Swish hotel, fizz, food, spa and shopping.

I come to York a lot but this masons' shed next to the Minster was new. You get watch a mason (in a cage, poor bloke!) hand carve stone bits and bobs which will get stuck on the Minster shortly. Impressive stuff but I couldn't look at him without thinking of Ken Follet's epic and wonderful Pillars of the Earth :-)

Ooh and I notice from the 'one year ago' thumbnail that I was off to Romania this time last year and was in Mongolia 2 years ago today :-)
