Salad Man
This is the guy I buy my salad from. It's great - rarely costs more than a couple of manat for a huge bag. He has lettuce, green and purple basil, coriander, spring onions, radishes, dill, flat leaf parsley, sorrel, spinach, mint and today tarragon. The tarragon was more expensive because it's just coming back into season. The herbs in Azerbaijan are fantastic. I don't know where they come from because we haven't been able to grow anything on our balcony... actually we haven't yet killed the tomato plant we were given by friends and it's still producing tomatoes. But I don't think we can claim to have grown it ourselves!
Salad man was happy for me to take his photo, but didn't want to look at the camera. Traditionally people don't smile for photos here - it's an ex-Soviet thing apparently. Smiling makes you look like an idiot, so I'm told :D
So dinner tonight was salad from here, a spit roast chicken from the chicken and kebab shop - that will be the subject of a later blip! And mashed potato. Yum. Now I might have some figs bought from fruit-from-the-boot-of-a-lada man - another subject for a future blip!
