running commentary

Neil and Eddy

These two were running in the Langdale Marathon today.
Me and DavidHwere photographing it (and the accompanying half marathon) for my Sports Event website - Cheers for helping out DH.

In keeping with my recent explanations to how I go about taking the images I Blip;

In bright weather I would use Aperture Priority and almost wide open.
However in gloomy conditions as we had today there would be a chance of shutter speeds getting too low and the runners having motion blur.

So instead I used Shutter Priority at 1/400 which is usually suitably fast to get a sharp, motion stopping result.
Auto ISO would have been OK too but I set it at 800 (as that was the lowest quality I would be happy with).
I noted the Aperture was nearly always f4 or f4.5 so my results are pretty much the same as if I'd used Aperture Priority but without the risk.

If the weather had perked up mid event I might have considered changing to A' Priority because set at 1/400 sec the aperture might have reduced to a level where the background could have been too sharp - not desireable in these type of sports images.
