Chaos on the Canal
The tenth anniversary of the re-opening of the Forth and Clyde Canal. Here are some of the 80 vessels arriving at Auchinstarry Basin at the end of Day One. Lots of flags, balloons, pipe bands, crews in costume, raising of champagne and whisky glasses, waves and smiles. We even spotted a wee sausage dog wearing a life jacket. A grand celebration. How do you choose just one from 337?
We joined the fun at Kirkintilloch, as they left the marina at 2 pm. Drove along the back roads to Twechar, to see several barges struggling to stop until the bridge was opened. It took six men in high vis jackets, two Police Officers and a hooter to manage operations there.
This was taken from the bridge at Auchinstarry about 5 pm. Strong sunlight, so had to use my polarising filter.
Here is Shine-A-Light's entry from earlier in the day.
Tomorrow the flotilla leave here at 10 am, and sail to the Falkirk Wheel. Well worth going to watch.
