How not to do it

By Janis

It's not such a hard life

well the children don't think it is quite as hard as they thought it was now.
We had a pleasant afternoon at Bodium (yes I do go there a lot!!) and the children got the opportunity to grind wheat for flour and make butter. Making butter was boring, having to pump that pole up and down in the bucket for ages made their arms ache and turning the quern stone was hard work , we worked out that to make enough flour to bake enough bread for a family our size would take them 4 hours. School seems a doddle after that prospect!! They also got to see authentic medaeval food being cooked over the open fire, they didn't like seeing the dead rabbits and pheasants though...I don't think they'd really thought about where their meat came from before.
