Progress or a blot on the landscape?
This crane is currently assembling our villages new Tesco store. Personally I'm thrilled....our nearest decent supermarket is a long trek away and the prospect of popping up the road for my groceries is appealing and while I can fulfil some of my shopping needs in the village I can't get everything I need and it's at rather higher prices than in the supermarkets (a luxury I can definitely not afford).
There has been much hoohar about the arrival of the 'blight on the landscape' by those in the village who have failed to realise that if our village had failed to progress it would still be 2 houses populated by tenant farmers and overlooked by the lord of the manor a few miles down the road and they wouldn't have anywhere to live hereabouts. Personally I think their houses are more of a blot on the landscape than the new store will be......the majority of them are hurreidly built copycats of each other on one of the 3 estates surrounding us wheras the new store replaces a run down empty old bus station that was the target of any passing vandal.
Well whatever....it's is creating much joy in our house. The children walk past the site on the way to school and they've watched all the stages from the day the drills moved in to shift the concrete to today when the basic structure went up in a matter of hours. A great education IMO
