Well it rained, but not until after about 40 of us had met and started on the photowalk. For those living in Dublin and not there the following is the list of places visited : Heuston Station, Parkgate Street & the new Dublin Criminal Courts, The Wellington Monument, famous for being ignored. Sarah Bridge, the most beautiful of the older Liffey bridges. The Dublin Rowing Clubs,
The War Memorial Gardens, a national treasure. Bully's Acre Graveyard,
The Royal Hospital, with beautiful formal gardens.
Mrs. Joesblips came along but she was sneezing and streaming with a cold and as the rain increased in fury we decided to call it a day half way round and scuttled off to the Royal Hospital for lunch. Now the RH is the home of the Irish Museum of Modern Art and it just so happened that they are currently hosting a major photo exhibition entitled "Out of the Darkroom" a selection of prints from the David Kronn Collection. The importance of this show may be gleaned from some of the "names" represented.
Robert Mapplethorpe, Annie Liebovitz, Tomako Sawada, Aldo Sessa, Walker Evans, Bernice Abbott, Ansel Adams, Herb Ritt, Edward Weston, and Brett Weston. That's just a sample from the list All amazing stuff and a pot-pourri of the history of 20th century photography. I enjoyed it so much that I plan to go back during the week even if it does mean a 150km round trip.
So, today's blip shows one of the visitors to the exhibition, taking in some of the work.
