A Day to Make a Difference
Today was Wellesley's annual A Day to Make a Difference. Basically, students, alum, faculty and staff come together to do community service at various locations for a day. Not everyone participates, but I think it's a really fun thing to do. This year, H and I went to the Stone Zoo! When we volunteered there last year, we were given the task of digging up a pig pen, laying down wire mesh, and covering everything up again so the new pigs they had acquired wouldn't dig out of the pen.
This year, we were given a cushier job of fixing up the playground at the zoo. We basically spread around wood chips so kids don't get hurt when they fall off the monkeys bars or something. We finished early, so we were allowed to wander around the zoo and look at the animals for about two hours. Highlights of the zoo were the meercats, Sushi the otter, and the flamingoes!!! (pictured above) The little grey ball of fluff is the new baby flamingo! Fun fact: the Stone Zoo has one of the most successful flamingo breeding programs in the world. Woohoo! Love the zoo! :)
