Exterminate!

Two Very large spiders in the bath this morning. Armed with a jelly jar and lid, I rescued them from the cats as they charged in to get a drink of water. Successfully blipped, I now have to work out what to do with them. Hmmm.

Another cat rescue: the Citizen Housewives Guide knocked off the bookcase and lying in bits on the floor. Published by the Glasgow Evening Citizen in the 1950's, it's full of handy hints and ideas. For example, instead of using kitchen roll you could...

"Save old NEWSPAPERS, bore a hole through the lot of them and hang them on a string beside the kitchen sink. Use them to wipe all greasy plates and pans. It saves dirtying cloths and the papers are useful afterwards for setting fires."

Not impressed? Feel that the whole idea of rancid grease on bits of paper takes away from the romantic notion of the brightly glowing log fire? Me too. Changed days indeed.
