Duty of Care
Dexter relaxes after another difficult week, whilst Monty keeps watch in the background.
Our little tiger has been through so much over the last couple of weeks. After the surgery last week to mend his leg came home on Monday and was taken back yesterday for a check up.
It was not good news.
The circulation that the vets thought was fine, wasn't and Dexters foot was found to be rotting. There was nothing else to be done but amputate his leg.
After such a journey; full of doubts, decisions, and relief, it was a huge disappoint to us that he would not fully recover.
So yesterday his leg was amputated and today we bought him home. Even for a young cat he just looks tired of it all, and we all just want to give him the best support we can.
It's a responsibility owning a pet. If you choose to own an animal you have a duty of care. It's not just about cuddles, or throwing sticks. I still believe that everyone with a pet should have a license, and I certainly believe that insurance should be a legal requirement.
How many people make the decision to have their pets put to sleep solely because they can't afford the bill for treatment that would keep them alive? At what point does a pet just become an inconveniance?
When we got Dexter, and all our pets, we made a conscious decision to give them the best life we could. They are family, and deserve nothing less.
