Crannog

This is the crannog at Loch Tay, near Kenmore. We had a tour and talk on it and it was very interesting. Crannogs existed on Loch Tay 2,500 years ago, and the guide explained how the people lived in these days, eating a better diet than we do, full of berries, herbs etc. and building these crannogs out in the water probably to protect themselves from attack by men and beasts. They would take their livestock into the crannog also, and each one probably supported the larger family of about twenty people plus livestock, pigs, sheep, cattle etc.
