For the 39 year old from CHCH who was lost to the Falls. Not sure it is him I feel sorry for (stupidity comes to mind) But his family and friends don't deserve this nor do the rescuers who have to do the dirty work.

"The 39-year-old was heading to Nelson for a rugby game with a group of 34. They stopped at Maruia Falls, south of Murchison, at about 5pm yesterday.

Randall and three others jumped the security barrier resulting in the deceased and another slipping down a bank, police said.

The other person managed to get to safety while Randall was held by the arm for a short period before falling into the water and disappearing.

Police resumed the search today after unsuccessfully looking before nightfall on Friday. The search team included five members of the Police Dive Squad, three Land Search and Rescue teams, kayakers, a jet boat and a helicopter."
