Route 66 et al

Watching Billy Connolly's Route 66 programme during the week brought back lots of happy memories of family holidays touring in North America. After our second American adventure on the West Coast in 1990 I got a National Geographic map of American and and stuck it onto a piece of hardboard. All the places we stayed at were marked with a map pin and the pins joined up with red wool to show the route. Thereafter, the map would be updated following a holiday in the States.

One of the best holidays was in 2001 when, to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary, Eleanor and I hired a 4 X 4 and drove from Boston to San Diego. Along the way we took in much of the old Route 66 and loved ever minute of it.

The last big adventure was in 2006 when, for our 30th wedding anniversary, we toured New England in the Fall. I always think of it at this time of year as the leaves comes down.

The problem now is that the map is a bit big for anywhere in our new and may have to be binned. And the solution? Blip the map and it is on the internet for posterity!

For any detail it really has to be viewed in large.
