Learn How To Fall

Whenever it rains now, the drops knock loose leaves from branches with just a deft flick, and send them cascading to the ground until the shower becomes more leaf than water. When they hit the earth, they sit still, waiting to be trampled to mulch; their few seconds of graceful flight are behind them, and of course, being just simple leaves, they'll never know that their time in the air was when they were at their most beautiful.

We have six days left until our establishment is closed - being met by the wrecking ball of modernisation - and all of us who work there are scattered to the winds. You'd think we'd be miserable in this final week, but actually, I can't remember when we last had so much fun. We've stopped worrying about the future, and just set about celebrating the past. I suppose, when it comes down to it, we're learning how to fall.
