analysis time
yesterday the scottish public cleared its throat and had its say. loudly.
today the papers and tv pundits try and work out wtf that means for scotland - and for the rest of the uk, especially mr david and mr nick down there in westminster.
blimey, what a night... (and we missed it, ouch)
the snp have just driven a fleet of tanks through the mechanism that labour designed to ensure that the snp could never win a majority in holyrood. not bad going - worthy of respect, even if you think alex is a smug bugger.
yes, a lot of it was down to what the libdems have done in london and the fact the scots party couldn't distance itself from that and a lot of people up here wanted to make a point. but they didn't make a point by voting labour, or for a fringe party, or by not voting. they did it by voting for a party that campaigned with policy promises and a record in government - something which the other three didn't, despite two of them having been in power in scotland and all three having a westminster record (tho both of those things aren't necessarily plus points).
let's see how westminster tries to wriggle out of this one...
