Basic needs plus
I was listening to the radio this morning and heard a chap from Sainsbury's talking about how their two ranges "Basics" and "Taste the Difference" are both increasing in sales. His rationale for this was that people are buying "Basics" for as many things as they can, then enjoying the "TtD" stuff because they enjoy the finer things in life.
I was chatting about this with someone today who said that she doesn't often buy "TtD" goods, but she has moved to Sainsbury's from Tesco so she can buy from their "Basics", because Sainsbury's have mozzarella and feta to be basics.
What we consider to be basic needs is vastly variable, isn't it? I took a substantial pay cut a while ago and, while I don't regret the move for a moment, ever since I've felt hard up. Until I discovered this site and realised that on a global scale, I'm loaded.
And I can still afford to drink a glass of merlot on a Wednesday evening for no other reason than that it's nice.
