Unloved
I think this is quite an amazing building if you look closely at it.
What is it?
It's just an old mill that's getting into a bad state of repair now. Built in 1906, it must have been quite something when it was first built, although by that time changes in the cotton industry must have been on the cards, surely?
It has a few businesses that are situated on the ground floor; taxi firms and the like, but there have been plans in the last few years for it to be demolished and new houses to be built on the site. That would be a lot of houses, but, as the bottom fell out of the housing market some time back, well, there were no buyers for this still proud building.
I don't know what the answer is for old places like this, but I know that I have always been fascinated by these old industrial sites, which were once such a hive of activity for hundreds of people.
The folks that first worked here will now simply be long forgotten family relatives. I wonder what they would think of the working environments and financial situations that affect us all today.
