But not a fairy in sight...

We used to have a horse-chestnut where these are growing but it had to come down as the Council ruled it unsafe.

There are in fact 3 types of fungi growing at this spot now. Some short, dark brown, button types, some greyish ones that look rather strange and these. I'm inclined not to pop a slice of hot buttered toast under any of them, to be honest.

We had a second tree taken down at the same time as the other but that site has not produced any fungi.

Can anyone shed any light on why they should appear in this way?
