The last of the summer wine?
I saw these forlorn creatures through the conservatory window today. Relatively speaking, I haven't been in the garden for a couple of weeks. I so hate this time of year as the days are too short. I did have a little project on the go with the wood store. I had put the roofing sheets on temporarily, waiting for my brother-in-law Keith to fix them permanently. He is considerably lighter on his feet than me and will not overload the structure as I of course would. I have to tip my hat to Sparkie Markie, who used the expression, "those not too light on their feet brigade." What a marvellous expression?Anyway, Keith is a proud son of Barnsley and a gentleman to boot. If you have ever read James Herriot, you may remember him saying that Yorkshiremen are not used to Whisky and tend to serve generous portions. It is so with Keith, and may he continue to do so. I suppose the myth about Yorkshiremen being tight, is a sort of self-deprecating joke. Like the Scots, they are indeed generous hosts, but like the idea that everyone thinks they are parsimonious.I hope he manages to negotiate the Pennines this week-end to assist me with the wood store. I might even uncharacteristically, buy him a couple of pints of John Smiths or perhaps a pleasant cask ale. He will of course in true Barnsley style, reciprocate. However, in order to satisfy the reputation of being legally able to play cricket for God's wonderful county, will when told the price declare, "HOW MUCH?" The Barnsley war-cry.
Adios.
