Be careful what you wish for
For years I'd wanted to have a hedgehog in the garden. Today I went out to take a photo of the hedge with the raindrops on it and as I adjusted my camera settings I felt something under my foot.
When I realised it was soft I moved and looked to find a little hedgehog on the grass.
It was a cold and wet day and this poor little mite was out there in it all. So I found out information and got a box, filled it with strips of newspaper, put some gloves on and lifted him into it.
I then moved the box somewhere out of the rain in a covered area that should be warmer although it is still technically outside.
I then got an old hot water bottle that I was throwing out and put warm water from the hot tap into it, made sure it was about the right temperature, wrapped it in a cloth and placed it in the box next to the hedgehog.
The next job was to find out what kinds of things I could feed it. I discovered that dried mealworms that I have to feed the birds would be more than suitable so I've put several of those in a corner of the box and a saucer of water in the other corner.
I've covered the top of the box with a very light cover so that it's dark and with a bit of luck he will be ok.
