Out of the Country House

All the houses here in Ulyanovo have manic guard dogs, whose owners stick a foot in front of their kennels when welcoming guests; they also have chickens.

However cold it is inside, incidentally, the Russian house is always roasting warm. The whole cottage is built around an enormous stove. People even sleep on top of it - it's the prized spot, traditionally reserved for the p/matriarch.
