Fall Colors

After a wonderful day at my husband's 30th college reunion yesterday, we spent our day today on a stretch of road called Skyline Drive in Virginia, admiring the fall colors. Not quite full colors yet, but a beautiful tease nevertheless.

Skyline Drive gets its name from the two-lane road that winds its way through the mountain tops of the Blue Ridge mountains over a stretch of a 100 miles. It was originally commissioned by Franklin Roosevelt in the 30s, enlisting the help of the Depression-era Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), as part of Roosevelt's major infrastructure renewal effort (I guess stimulus packages worked back in those days).

We got going early and from the south, avoiding the mad rush of Washington-based people later that day (a 4-mile wait to get into the park, by the time we left!)

Have a great week, all! :)
