Raising the nap

I've not seen many teasel plants in my area before, but came across some today. Apparently they were used widely in the textile and wool industries for raising the nap on cloth. They'd be attached to spindles or wheels which would draw these seed heads over the textile and thereby raise the nap (or tease the fibres).
