Mr. Fun's Specialty
I arrived home before 4:00 this afternoon and sat right down at my computer and began doing more school work. Is there such a thing as a job where someone really clocks out? Don't answer that, I'll have to go apply.
I really do love what I do (most of the time). I do get tired of some fairly lame emails from students (I 've included a series from one student today who just couldn't get his act together). I also get quite tired of reading and marking student papers. I never get tired of student victories -- those "ah-ha" moments when they discover they can write,-- that they can succeed. Anyway, I am learning more and more about the online program that houses a portion of my cyber classroom. I'm also in a class as a student currently learning how to "maneuver" through all the whistles, bells, tunnels, ditches, not to mention the cloud of the online "Blackboard" program my school uses. So staying close to the computer is an on-going event at the moment.
It was slightly after 6:00 when Mr. Fun announced that he was going to chop some veggies and head toward the barbecue. So I set the table and made a salad and fixed three bowls of kebble for the three pooches. Truely they would have much rather had some of the grilled chicken breast that I was having.
Now it is back to serious computing -- Blipfoto is fun, entertaining computing -- but I (the student) have an assignment due by tomorrow and I also have teacher tasks to do for my students. We are though thinking about running away for the weekend. So stay tuned and we'll see where the road leads us.
Good night from Southern California.
Rosie (& Mr. Fun), aka Carol
P.S. Below is the series of 3 emails I received from a student today after I sent him an email explaining that his essay had not been submitted during the "grace" period extended to about 8 students because they had "forgot" to print and attach the online tutor's comments and suggestions. He was the only one who missed the "grace" period so his project receives a zero. His email reveals it was not because he "forgot to print the tutor's comments," but because he had not made the $15 purchase of the online lab 8 weeks ago when the semester started. His language skills reveals that he needs to be in a class more basic than the one I am teaching. I've told him numerous times he needs to begin with a "basic skills" class and he refuses. It's moments like this that my job is not so pleasant.
