The Daily Bun

Mission accomplished!

Today we completed the Cuckoo Way, finishing at the 46 mile marker where the Chesterfield Canal meets the River Trent. The walking was easy, which was just as well after yesterday's long haul, and most of the landscape pleasant, if, like yesterday's leg, a little flat and agricultural. One of the greatest challenges today was to find our way home, but our timetables and maps didn't let us down, even though we nearly missed our train in Retford, as the train station is 20 minutes' walk from the bus station!
This shot is my favourite of the day. As we've counted the miles on the milestones from 1 to 46, so we've counted up the bridges - nearly 100 in all. Many of the original ones are very attractive and built from the lovely red terracotta brick typical of this part of Nottinghamshire, and so different from the stone of most of Sheffield's old buildings.
