Hallelujah

It is Sunday afternoon and as I walk past the Trinity Lutheran Church here in Calgary I hear lovely music, uncharacteristic of classic church music.

It turns out that it is made by a group of four Eritrean Calgarians practicing their hymn singing. They are singing in their native first language and i can recognize none of the words. The music is beautiful.

Calgary is fast shaking off its homogenous cultural stereotype. There are large numbers of many cultures and ethnicities here now. The East African links are quite apparent with a well established Somali Ethiopian and Eritrean communities. Many of these are Christians as witnessed here.

I took this using HDR: not really the ideal situation, but i thought the blurred movement of the singers seemed to contrast nicely with the static paintings in the background
