Day 21. 365grateful - Finding your own North Star
I am re-reading 'Finding your own North Star' by Martha Beck. I have read a lot of personal development books but I found this one the most refreshingly different. Her explanation of the social self and the essential self is very illuminating. Right now the problems I'm having with headaches and migraines I think are linked with needing to make a change in my life. She talks about the soul crushing absurdity of being on the wrong path in life and the exciting fear when you think about what you actually want to do. But as the only earner in this household part of me wonders where the mortgage payment is going to come from each month. My social self strikes again!
Real life isn't always going to be perfect or go our way, but the recurring acknowledgement of what is working in our lives can help us not only to survive but surmount our difficulties. Sarah Ban Breathnach

The 365 Grateful Project
In early 2008, in an effort to fight depression, Hailey Bartholomew started a year long photographic project which involved taking one Polaroid photo a day of something she felt grateful for.
I thought that this was such a fab idea I would do it as well. I have been blipping on and off recently but I lost my enthusiasm for it when I felt that every day was the same, always going to the same place. However, I think that documenting something I am grateful for each day gives it a different slant.
