Saffron
I described how today should have gone last year. This time we've had two days of heavy rain and it was still cloudy this morning, so the walk to the saffron fields was limited to paved paths and lunch was in the salle des fêtes at Neffiès. We still had a wonderful day: the baskets of flowers were poured onto a long table where people who knew what they were doing took the red threads of saffron from the crocus flowers and then we ate a delicious paella made with saffron produced in these fields. There were about 120 people eating and we were a group of eight friends enjoying the food and wine together. Even though I didn't have the eau de vie offered with the coffee I still needed a siesta when I got home!
