Red Sky at night = shepherds delight
(apart from tomorrow when red sky at night = the council have lit the bonfire)
The first thing I do every morning after getting out of bed is look through the blind to see what the weather is doing.
Today there was no weather - none at all. And the day continued in the same manner. No weather!
It wasnt cold enough to need a coat or even jumper but it wasnt warm enough to be able to go about in a tee shirt.
It wasnt windy
It wasnt raining
There was zero sunshine
There were no big black clouds suggesting storms.
Just a non weather day!
A couple of hours before sunset DaveH informed me we would have good sunset - I didnt imagine he would be right.
then it rained
A LOT
Then some of the cloud gave way to blue skies and as I made my way home with Scamp there was indeed a nice sunset. I couldnt actually see the sun setting from the city but the red skies were out in force and I knew if I could capture some of what I saw I would have my Blip (and fairly crap pun).
I should also point out that each year we have a themed bonfire in Carlisle. This year the theme is the Olympics. This excellent creation features a running track, a crowded stadium, the Olympic rings, and, as centrepiece, the Olympic flame will burn atop the whole stack
Today was also my first day of using Adobe Lightroom. (which I got half price thanks to a note on Blip forum last week)
I knew that popping in a bit of exposure compensation in the field would give me skies I wanted and that I could rescue the detail in the bonfire with a grad filter in LR. This worked out as i expected and is one thing that Apples Aperture program (which I have been using for the past year or so) cannot do. Thus far I am hugely enamoured with Lightroom.
Great prospects for the next two days. Tomorrow I might go to the lakes to photograph a race or I might go into town in the evening (along with 20,000 others) to see the fire(works). Then on Sunday there is another race but Ill be running not photographing this one - a classic 10 miler around Derwentwater near Keswick
Have a great weekend Blippers
