Mealworms for my Robin!
He does love them so! ;) It's been a very frosty morning with clear blue skies and I couldn't wait to go out and see Robin and all the other garden birds. The mealworms were put out and Robin took to them straight away but then the Starlings came and so I took a few mealworms out, moved the bowl a few feet away (the Starlings descended en masse to the bowl) but I put the worms that were in my hand on the table and, luckily, Robin tucked into them for a few minutes while the Starlings were occupied elsewhere (hence no bowl in the above photo). It didn't take long for the Starlings to realise there were some on the table either *rolls eyes*
Now don't get me wrong, I love Starlings, they're gorgeous songsters, have great characters and beautiful sparkly iridescence in their plumage, but I just wish they wouldn't gobble up every single mealworm so that nothing else can have a look in! I suppose if you see a food source you're going to use it (obviously) and Starlings are hardly ever seen alone so if you see food you're going to grab as much of it as possible. I suppose I'm just going to have to live with it :)
Stunning Starling
Thank you all for the comments and stars for yesterdays Dunnock blip. I've seen more again this morning including three who had a bit of a wing-waving competition ;)
