Friday: The Mermaid, Rye
K. and I have come down to Rye, East Sussex, for the weekend, and what a lovely place it is! We got here at about 1600 so just had a little bit of time to have a look round before it got dark.
It is a most pleasant and olde-worlde town, with lots of literary associations too. We stopped off here, in 'The Mermaid', for a drink but at £4 a pint we didn't linger. It is was rebuilt in 1420, so re-built before America had even been discovered. Hard to comprehend almost!
Our own little hostelry, above a pub, was fantastic, and with dinner thrown in with a two night stay, we were very happy all round!
